Search by Category
To help you find the kind of jobs you're looking for, JOBJOURNEYScotland has divided jobs into categories. On the homepage you can click on the category that best describes your type of work, the industry you work in or the one in which you would like to work. The numbers next to each item let you know how many jobs we currently have on the site for that category. You will be presented with a search page specifically for that category. If you can't see a category that offers what you're looking for, you may choose to search by location or to use our keyword search.

Search by Location
Map Search
If you are motivated by where a job is rather than what category it is in, you can use our map search. By clicking on the relevant region you wish to search in, you will be presented with a search page specifically for that region. You can then select the towns you are interested in by selecting the relevant tick boxes. The numbers next to the towns tell you how many jobs are currently available for that location. You can then specify the income you are looking for, the type of job you are after, be it permanent, temporary, etc. and finally you can add any keywords that describe the role you are looking for.
Other Location Searching
You can also search for a specific location by using the search form on the homepage. Enter either a postcode or name and specify a distance around that location depending on how far you would be prepared to commute. We have made this easier by including a suggestions list, when you begin typing. These suggestions are from the location list in our database, and do not indicate that there are jobs in that location currently on the site. If you type in a location we do not recognise, or you misspell it, we will try to match it as closely as possible.
The name can be that of a region such as The Borders, a city or town such as Edinburgh or Dumfries, a postcode or even a locality such as Princes Square. For the distance we offer several options ranging from 0 miles right up to 100 miles.

Search by Selection
This search allows you to specify as much information as our website permits, when searching for a job. You can select a location in the same manner as the location search (above), specify your salary or rate, choose a category and select the type of job you want. You can also include keywords in your search.
When you are happy with the criteria you have specified, simply click on the 'Search' button and you will be shown the results for your search.

Keyword searching
Keyword searching means you can search for a specific word or string of words among the jobs we have. This is useful when you have a specific job title or skill you are looking for. The best words to use as search terms are those that usually only appear in the title or description of the jobs you are looking for. If your line of work requires a particular qualification or skill, using terms like ASP, HGV or ACA can quickly find relevant jobs. Please note that common words such as 'it', 'the', and 'of' cannot be used for searching.
You can also combine words using
AND,
OR, and
AND NOT
.
Examples:
training AND development
finds jobs adverts which contain both the words 'training' and 'development' , but not necessarily next to each other
sales OR marketing
finds job adverts containing either the word 'sales' or the word 'marketing' , but not necessarily next to each other
web AND NOT designer
finds job adverts that mention 'web' but do not contain the word 'designer'
You can search for a phrase by typing it exactly as it would appear in the job description
"contract manager"
finds jobs containing the phrase 'contract manager'
If you want to find all the variations of a word, you can do so by using an asterisk after the 'stem' of the word.
secretar*
finds jobs containing words that begin with the letters 'secretar', for example 'secretary', 'secretaries', 'secretarial', etc.

Using the Job Basket
Job Basket is a feature that allows you to store the jobs you are interested in, while you are viewing job results or job details pages. You can then go back and apply for all these jobs in one go.
To save a job to your basket, click on the 'add' link next to the basket icon, on the results or job details page. If you change your mind, just click on the ticked basket icon to remove it from your basket, or go to the job basket page.
Once you have finished viewing your results, click on the job basket link near the top of the page you are on, and you will see the job basket page. This page is divided into two sections. In the first section are all the jobs that you can apply for in one go. In the second section are jobs that must be applied for individually because the recruiter has specified a different apply process.
To apply for multiple jobs, tick the square check box next to each job you want to apply for (to help you, they are all pre-ticked), then click on the 'Apply for selected jobs' button.
Your job basket only remains for the time you are on the site and will empty as soon as you move off the site or close your browser. You can only store up to 20 jobs at any one time.
